He stood up and drew a spell with the fingers of one hand; what appeared in his hand was the staff with the entwined vipers - the one that Adrien had been using to draw his spells in the practice tower. He offered it to him with a smile.

"But -- that's -- that's yours", Adrien said, looking up at Val with eyes as wide as they could be.

"Not anymore", Val smiled. "It suits you better than it suits me. I want you to keep it. It's yours, now". He set it in Adrien's hands. "Happy birthday".
