The Gifts of Darkness
Page transcript
Adrien gazed up at Val with wide eyes, breathless and wordless. He had expected his dream to shine brighter in reality, but he still found himself blinded by its light. His dream, in its simple perfection, could not show him how the fabric of Val's robe sagged down over him, revealing the blue light rippling on his chest; it could not portray the soft gleam of the sunlight on his skin, nor the way his lashes flickered over his shimmering eyes; it could not give him the gentle warmth radiating from his body; and it could not let him feel this chaotic bliss that now washed him over and transformed him. Val's half-parted lips called to him; smiling in rapture, Adrien reached up to kiss him. The motion now came easy; he knew how would their lips meet and where they would caress, when to glide and when to push, and when to draw a breath before kissing again. Where his dream was beautiful, his reality was more beautiful than he could understand; and even more beautiful was to be a part of it. Adrien understood now - a dream was only meant to be seen in shards through the veil of memory, but their present was for them to take in, to hold, to shape with each new breath.
